Cross-Border Redispatch: What Can Europe Learn from the Global Energy Transition? (with Brian Motherway (IEA))
Welcome to our new Redispatch Cross-Border format. In this international spin-off of the classic "Redispatch - nachgehakt", we are broadening our geographical horizon by inviting experts from around the globe. The idea is to learn about the current state, successes and failures of the energy transition abroad, and to receive ideas and inspiration for solving challenges back home in Germany. We hope you enjoy it and that you can answer our core question, "Did we learn something today?", with a convincing "hell yeah". Our first Redispatch Cross-Border guest comes straight from the headquarters of the International Energy Agency (IEA) in Paris, France. Brian Motherway is Head of the Energy Efficiency and Inclusive Transitions Office and has been with the IEA for more than ten years. Together with him, we are tackling three broader topic areas in this episode: 1. Current global energy situation: Are frequent energy (price) shocks the new normal? 2. Energy transition policies and fastest movers: What can Europe learn from other regions? 3. Energy affordability: What does Europe have to do? Brian brings a unique global perspective to the table. From the progress of electrification in China to responses to the recent fossil energy price crisis in India, he helps us cover a lot of ground on where we are today and where we are headed with regard to the global energy transition.
